Lookism Anime Short Explained

The story starts with a high school boy named Park Hyeong-Seok, Who gets bullied for being the ugliest and the fattest guy in the school. The bullying got so intense that it made him transfer to another school. But things didn’t take a right turn this time either. On the first day in his new school, a guy named Lee Jin-Seong punches him for giving weird looks to his crush Mi-Jin.

Then it makes him realize that transferring schools won’t change the behavior of others towards him. That night he wakes up as a completely different person. Who looks nothing like his old body at all. His body switches to a good-looking, fit, and strong body. The next day, when he gets introduced to his classmates with his new body and face, everyone’s perspective changes on him. Yet, Lee Jin-seong envies him for being everyone’s favorite and gets in a fight with him but as his new body is much stronger he dodges his every punches.

Park Hyeong-Seok getting bullied in lookism

People didn’t even think of looking down on him. The stares that he used to get are no longer the same. But whenever he switches back to his old body everything comes back to its place. When he sees people getting bullied in his school, he helps them and even joins them for lunch to not make them feel left out.

Even though he’s living in his new body half of the time, yet he values his true self and tells to himself that even if he changes his body but his soul will remain the same. At the end of the day, he’s himself after all. There’s another side character who’s just like him named Pyeon Deok-hwa. In his new school, he continually gets bullied for his looks and being fat. But he’s quite the opposite of Park Hyeong-Seok. He doesn’t give up even after getting bullied so many times. He wanted to be a rapper, but his bullies wouldn’t let that happen every time he went to give an audition he’d get rejected before even they could hear his voice because of the way he looked. Still, he didn’t give up on his dreams.

Park Hyeong-Seok singing in lookism

One day at school, Park Hyeong-Seok was singing himself but Pyeon Deok-hwa heard him singing. He liked his singing so then he offered to join him for the school festival concert and he agreed. They both participated in the festival concert and the audience went wild also they won the first prize. However, the company that he went to give an audition for saw them performing and apologized for their behavior. The manager of the company offered Park Hyeong-Seok to join their company, but he declined the offer as he thought Pyeon Deok-hwa deserved it more.

That’s how the season ends.

Review

I personally like this anime a lot for its meaningful messages, amazing storyline, and motives. However, the animation could have been a lot better. As the anime was adapted from Manhwa, the Manhwa’s a lot more hyped than the anime version and it should be obvious that this anime is really underrated and not getting what it really deserves. So if you’re reading this, I’d highly recommend you to watch it. The soundtrack of this anime is also amazing like really very good. The song that we have at the end is “Fly Up”, which is a masterpiece and beloved by many. If you haven’t watched the anime yet or thinking of watching it then go ahead and watch it.
