The controversial question is whether the manga is better or anime. And like always you always say it depends. And truthfully it’s really just that. It depends on the circumstance. But this series ‘Mob Psycho 100’ is a bit different and we’ll discuss how it’s different and which version is better.
I have read mob psycho 100 manga and anime. Let me fill you in with some basic things, which are normally when you watch manga or read stuff. Normally, you have the images, but there’s no flow; you have to predict the movements by the direction of the artist, and by doing that, you make up a great part of your imagination. So, the one who reads the manga would generally have all of their pictures in animation in their imagination. Every reader has their own imagination, but the fun part is they imagine in a way that is only unique to them, and their imagined animation is the best for them.
So now when a company animates, they create the animation for general popularity not for one particular person, which makes the animation degrade in the perspective of the person who has already read the manga. The animation in the anime will always be inferior to the animation you have in your imagination. That’s called the power of imagination
But in terms of mob psycho 100, the manga art was really horrible, it was hard to relate one move to another, and it was vague. Overall the storyline is fun but the art was horrible.
And when the same story gets animated, what you imagined to be from the manga in your mind gets completely enhanced since this time, the manga quality was so bad that no matter how good your animation is in your imagination, the animation created from a great studio will outclass your imagination. Generally, the art was pretty bad, in my thoughts, and that is what led us to like the animation so much.
The animation techniques of this series is what makes its art style truly unique. The series used a combined hybrid style of the traditional hand drawn animation with digital animation. Which is the reason that the art style is more different than any of its peers. This hybrid style is both fluid and extremely expressive. The art style is really unique i must say, as I’m typing this down i am getting reminded of it. And of course you can see in its animation how good and effective the style was. The quirky special effects were especially good.
Mob Psycho 100 series takes advantage of animation to elevate the comedy and action, which makes the anime far more superior than the manga. And that’s why I firmly stand by most of you. The manga is going to be more lamer than the animation. If you read the manga first, then see the animation adaptation. It’ll feel like you’ve come onto a different dimension. Good luck.
