Shikimori’s Not Just a Cutie – Full Review and Analysis

I have been looking for some good romance anime. Then I thought to myself that I could not miss out on “Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie.” As the series was hyped enough when it first came out, so I had to find out if it’s worth giving a try or not. So here I am, writing some words, vomit, and brain dumps a day after I finished the series.

This is an anime adaptation produced by Doga Kobo and written by Keigo Maki. The story revolves around two high school students, Yuuki Izumi and Miyako Shikimori, who seem to be dating. From the title of this anime, we can already guess that Shikimori is more than just being a cute girl. She never fails to impress people with her multiple talents, and that’s why she is more often called to be cool. In this series, Shikimori is shown to be an overprotective and strong girlfriend, but on the other hand, her boyfriend is a clumsy one. Who seems to be trying his best to keep her happy, and Shikimori adores him as well.

The relationship between the main characters, Shikimori and Izumi, is portrayed with such genuine warmth and sincerity that it’s almost impossible not to root for them. The wholesome story kept me watching it till the end. The side characters seem to be really supportive and good friends too, but something was just off about it. Probably because they seemed a little too boring at some point. But overall, it’s a good anime that will give you joy and laughter.

Shikimori’s Not Just A Cutie anime worth watching

Well, I don’t get why this anime series is getting so much hate like I’d understand if they find it boring. The show’s romance isn’t particularly realistic, but it doesn’t feel like it’s any unrealistic either. The animation is absolutely solid, and the OP and ED also gotta be one of the best I’ve seen so far. The relationship between Izumi and Shikimori is hella cute, I must say. They complement each other nicely, and while Izumi is kind of a bland, nice guy, I feel like his dynamic with Shikimori works just fine and keeps the series alive. Though I didn’t quite like the side casts because they weren’t so well written. But they are great supportive friends anyone can ask for. I would totally understand if you find this anime a little boring because that’s how the theme is. It is made to be peaceful and to freshen up your mind a little.

There are people who absolutely adored this series and also hated it. But for me, it was a decent anime that you can watch anytime you get some time off from your work or studies; it will refresh your mind and enlighten your mood. It was a delight anime from the start to finish. I love how unrequited feelings and pressure of being perfect were shown, along with how it feels to be unlucky in every small thing, but still, to see these characters be this strong in life is believable. So without any doubt, I’ll surely suggest you watch it.
