The fans of HxH really love the series, but even then, most of them can’t quite make anything out of the actual relationship between Gon and Killua because of many confusing arcs like the Chimaera ant, which developed the main characters a lot. And then the controversial topic of ”Go is a monster!” and continuing on. It’s a huge dilemma, which doesn’t quite serve as a solution. But I’ll try my best to give the audience a full overview of my thoughts on this matter and try to unveil any shadow that may or may not remain hidden in this haystack.
Gon and Killua have quite a complex relationship with their own unique ups and downs. That is why one can’t simply oversimplify the label, as some may call it purely dysfunctional. From the beginning, viewers can see how their friendship grows with mutual respect, trust, and a very deep understanding of each other’s strengths and, as said, weaknesses.

People, especially fans, can be quite overdramatic, as some may suggest, with these two’s separation. since the series finished with their farewells. Fans assume that’s the last time they will see each other, but the main reason is something you should be able to see if you’re a manga reader, too. There’s not much I can say about this. However, some sure information is that the manga won’t be ending anytime soon, and as it is in hiatus status, there are too many arcs that still need to be covered by the artist and the writer.
But people can be quite skeptical nowadays, and more so about these sorts of topics. And I am here for that. The topic is no secret, as these two’s relationship has been hotly debated and analyzed for years. It isn’t really hard to find people of every accusation imaginable about the characters. Their relationship can turn from lively and hearty to dark very quickly. But, as some of the analysts may say, after very many conclusions about each character’s selfishness and their examples, they show an unreasonable amount of toxicity, but from the report, I must say the two characters are as complicated as the rest of HxH. The dynamic of their relationship is very unique and complicated. To hold up any one example as being ‘toxic’, for either of them can be criticized as the best or worst. But the accusations are never-ending.

There are many controversial thoughts about their ‘parting’. And I should be elaborating. By making plans to part with Gon, Killua hopes Gon will become detached from him. Furthermore, time and distance will seep away at the importance he holds over Gon, so if he were to die because of the constant threat. Killua’s eternal devotion can be heard very clearly in the bottom paragraph.
”If I die, you’re not responsible for anything. You don’t owe me anything, so never throw your life away again. My only wish is for you to be safe. So here I am. I’m parting ways with you. Because I said you are only… no. 2. I said you were not the most important to me. So don’t think of me as the most important to you, too.”
There were many details that were omitted. I really wasn’t recovering much at all in the hospital. Killua used Alluka so that he could heal Gon. Then Aluka’s blood-stained past haunted them, and the risks of uncertainty came looming over their heads. Gon is always the No. 1. and then Illumi, Killua, and Alluka were in major plot twists in the series at that particular time.

Some may say these may be poor takeaways and more and refer to them as overthinkers and too emotional. While they say Killua and Gon are both mutually understood, at that point in the story, they would both willingly sacrifice anything to help each other. They remark with honesty that it’s an example of another common shonen trope that leads to people overthinking because of their popularity. Gon was constantly said to have shown the same amount of devotion to Killua.
I believe Gon and Killua’s relationship is one of the best aspects of Hunter x Hunter. It’s unlikely the author will remove their bond from the story, and I think they will reunite. These are my thoughts, and I hope they provide some clarity. Good luck to those hoping to see them together again.
