I just finished the first two episodes of “No Longer Allowed in Another World” and I’ve to say this show is different than other isekai. This show’s taking the isekai genre and flipping it on its head. The main character, Osamu Dazai is a Suicidal Protagonist, he gets transported to a fantasy world like usual, but he’s not happy about it at all. Instead, his whole goal is to find new ways to die. Yeah, it’s dark, but it’s handled in a way that’s surprisingly funny.
The way they mess with typical isekai tropes is pretty clever. There’s this scene with what you’d expect to be a cute animal scene but that had me laughing out loud. It doesn’t go how you’d think, it’s totally different.
The fantasy world itself is more interesting than your average isekai setting. It’s not just swords and magic; there’s some weird stuff going on that I can’t quite figure out yet. The other characters seem to have more going on under the surface too, which is refreshing.
But the real standout is the dark humor. Dazai’s deadpan reactions to all the crazy fantasy stuff around him are gold. I found myself actually laughing out loud a few times.
Each episode moves at a good clip. They have enough story and character stuff to keep it interesting, but there’s always a joke around the corner to keep things from getting too heavy.
It’s still early days, but “No Longer Allowed in Another World” seems promising. If you’re sick of the usual isekai formula and don’t mind some dark humor, it’s worth checking out. Just don’t go in expecting your typical “loser becomes a hero” story.
I’m gonna keep watching, if only to see what kind of trouble Dazai gets himself into next. Could turn out to be a standout series if they keep this up.
