In the previous episode, we discovered Tama’s true identity: she is actually a princess named Matilda.
This episode begins with a glimpse into her backstory. We see her brother, Leon, and her father training while she watches. Matilda expresses her desire to fight, but her father insists she knows her place as a princess. He then instructs her to change into a dress and return to her room to read.
In the present, Matilda confronts Kaibara, the otherworlder who has captured her father, the king. Kaibara’s abilities increase based on the flesh he consumes, allowing him to use the skills of those he devours. After consuming the king’s hand, he gains the king’s abilities and attacks Matilda using her father’s own skills.
Meanwhile, Sensei, Tama, and Nir escape from prison. Sensei heads to the queen’s room, searching for something important.
Back at the confrontation, Kaibara severely beats Matilda. Despite the pain, Matilda continues to fight, thinking of how Leon would never give up. Kaibara, excited at the prospect of devouring her, begins to recount his backstory. He was born in a mansion that was practically a castle. His parents bought him everything he wanted, and every day his table was filled with luxurious dishes. However, his heart grew emptier and emptier. One day, he attacked a woman and began to act strangely. He felt that from the start, he was nothing more than livestock kept in a cage. Eventually, he left the house. When he saw a man eating noodles, he suddenly started to beat him. Then, he was hit by a truck and transported to this world, where he now eats whatever he wants.
Kaibara attacks Matilda again, intent on eating her, but Sensei steps in front of them. Kaibara’s gift declared to eat Sensei. In the background, Annette urges Sensei to write Kaibara’s story and use his gift, but Sensei refuses, saying that a boring man boasting about his own misfortunes isn’t worth writing about. Kaibara becomes angry upon hearing this and aggressively declares that he wants to kill Sensei. Everything becomes chaotic, and Matilda starts to think that everything is happening because of her, leading her to cry. Sensei gives her a book—it’s her mother’s diary, which he had taken earlier. He tells her to read it and says that, as he had hoped, her ill-fated destiny was worth writing about. He instructs her to turn the page, and as she does, it seems that Sensei’s ability works on non-otherworlders too. The book’s pages begin floating in a circle, just like before when Sensei first used his ability.
Sensei reveals that the more he learned about her past, the more he realized that her kindness led her to suppress her true feelings. He tells her that she’s been a clumsy woman, bound by her father’s expectations of an ideal princess, and troubled by them. After her family’s tragedy, she earnestly tried to replace her brother, the ideal prince, to lift her father’s spirits. But her efforts only widened the rift between them, causing her to lose sight of her true self. Her late mother had advised her to live life on her own terms, and Matilda now recalls these words.
Sensei tells her that she’s standing at a crossroads: will she live as the ideal princess her father wants, or as the ideal prince in her brother’s place? When Matilda starts to say something, Sensei says that neither of those paths are hers. He reminds her that she’s Tama, and it’s up to her to write her own story. Matilda’s crest of the divine beast appears on her hand, triggering a memory for the king. When the divine beast first appeared on her hand as a child, Leon wanted to inform their father, but Matilda stopped him, knowing their father’s opposition to her martial arts practice. The king, overhearing this, suppressed her natural gifts to shield her from danger. But now, because of Sensei’s ability, they have awakened again, enabling Tama to defeat Kaibara.
Sensei returns the queen’s diary to the king. Just when everyone thinks Kaibara is dead, he revives again. He is one of the seven heroes who slew the Dark Lord. he secretly ate the flesh of the dead Dark Lord, becoming even more powerful. However, the Dark Lord’s daughter, Weldelia, arrives and beheads him. Upon seeing her, Sensei notices the lingering sadness in her eyes and expresses a desire to write her story someday.
The next morning, Sensei, Annette, and Nir continue their journey. Initially, Matilda chooses to stay at the castle to support the king, but the king grants her permission to join her friends. Tama then rejoins Sensei, Annette, and Nir on their journey.
Review
This episode isn’t particularly exciting and doesn’t have many funny scenes either. However, it was different from the others, and it wasn’t bad. I think I had high expectations for this episode, so I didn’t enjoy it as much. In this episode, we learn about Matilda’s ability and see Weldelia again. We also discover that Sensei’s gift works on non-otherworlders too. Overall, this episode wasn’t bad.
