Wistoria: The Wand and Sword – Episode 5 Recap and Review

Recap

The Grand Magic Festival begins, and Colette asks Sion to join their team. To participate in the Crown Attack, a team needs a total of at least 21,000 credits. Colette and Will need Sion to join them, but Sion becomes angry upon seeing Will with Colette. He questions why he has to team up with Will, especially since he doesn’t understand why Will is participating in such a high-level contest. Will, however, is focused on Julius and doesn’t respond, which makes Sion even angrier as he feels ignored.

The Grand Magic Festival begins. Various zones emerge from a powerful spell cast by the elves: the volcano zone, the marshland zone, the badlands zone, the grassland zone, and the woodland zone. This contest is played in teams of three. Participants will start outside the area and make their way to the center of the stadium. The first team to reach the crown is the winner.

Wistoria The Wand and Sword - Episode 5 Colette

As soon as the match begins, a golem thicket blocks their path. Everyone is discussing how Will couldn’t even scratch a golem during the spellwork exam, and now he’s going after so many of them. People laugh at him, but Will and Colette manage to defeat all of the golems. Will doesn’t have magic, so he hits them with a magic gauntlet. They then step into the badlands zone. This time, Will and Colette blow right through the badlands, moving at incredible speed. However, Sion does nothing.

Sion is thinking back to the time when Will saved him. Sion was so disgusted with himself that he wanted to die. That’s why Sion trained hard, pushing himself to the brink of death, to become as strong as possible. But seeing how Will is moving forward now, Sion feels angry at him.

Wistoria The Wand and Sword - Episode 5 Julius

In this crown attack contest, the closer he gets to the stadium, the more likely he is to run into opposing teams. Each squad will start clashing with each other once they reach the woodland zone. Will wants to keep moving and wait for an ambush, hoping to gain a terrain advantage by the time Julius arrives.

Then Julius appears in front of them, having beaten Will and Colette in the race to the stadium. The ones getting ambushed now are Will’s team. Julius attacks them, but to their surprise, Sion also attacks Will. Will and Colette are shocked—Sion is on their team, yet he’s attacking his own teammate, Will. However, Colette saves Will with her magic. Sion then tells Will to fight him. Julius prevents Colette from helping Will. Will can’t understand why Sion is suddenly attacking him, but Sion continues his assault. Now, Will has no choice but to fight Sion.

Review

Wistoria The Wand and Sword - Episode 5 Sion

This episode is arguably the best so far, as the anime continues to get more interesting with each passing episode. The plot developments and character interactions are keeping viewers hooked until the very end. I believe it’s one of the best animes of the season. I can’t wait to see how Will will handle fighting both Julius and Sion at the same time. Overall, this episode was excellent and I can say this episode is must-watch.
